Unless you use your ink-jet printer nearly every day, you run the risk of having those very expensive ink cartridges fail to work even though they have plenty of ink left. The easiest way to keep that from happening is to print a test page at least once a week. The manual that comes with your printer will tell you how to do so or you can print any page that uses all the colors including black.

We are often asked if it's OK to use off-brand ink cartridges or ink refill kits. We advise against this. Doing so often invalidates the manufacturer's warranty. We have seen ink-jet printers damaged to the point of having to be sent to the service facility for repairs. Unfortunately the cost of repairs often exceeds that of a new printer.
